Primary schools

Theatre in Education - Pirates of the Chillibean

The tour of ‘The Pirates of the Chillibean’ has now finished and the FSA in Wales’ theatre in education programme is currently under review.

Crucial Crew and Cookin' Castle

Our Crucial Crew workshops and Cookin' Castle online game have been discontinued.

Secondary schools

Food Safety and Hygiene e-learning course

We provide a free e-learning course to secondary schools in Wales which wish to offer 'Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene (Catering)' training to pupils.

The City and Guilds accredited qualification offers an opportunity for all students aged 14 and over to develop important life skills.

Following successful completion of the online training, students are awarded a certificate. The course focuses on food related topics, including:

  • the importance of food safety and hygiene
  • impact of foodborne illness
  • understanding food law
  • understanding allergens
  • food safety hazards and contamination
  • food preservation
  • storage and temperature control
  • personal hygiene
  • hygienic premises and equipment

Higher Education

Resources for colleges

The FSA has provided teaching resources for catering students intended to promote understanding of food safety management and Safer Food Better Business. These resources can be adapted to meet individual learning needs of various course delivery programmes. They include:

  • resource activities
  • handouts
  • activities to check learning
  • lesson plans
  • PowerPoint presentations
  • tracking/audit forms
  • case studies

Resources for Universities and student accommodation

The FSA has provided a Student guide to food safety and hygiene for university students offering advice on how to keep their kitchen tidy and reduce the risk of food poisoning.
